Make someone else’s home the party place. My friends Kozyndan were away and so the rest of us decided to make their home karaoke central. It’s easy when you have a portable karaoke machine.
Vivian plays the wine bottle like a triangle.
During a ballad, Jen lights a flame. And my dog wears glasses.
Where can I [...]

So this is one of my top 5 karaoke songs ever, that’s what makes this hilarious and disturbing.
This korean boy is not in a sexy Santa outfit like Mariah (thank god). But hey, he’s got that awesome accent. It’s worth a watch to hear about “magic laindeer”.

Like indie rock, hip hop is one of those underserved communities in karaoke. Yeah, they have Hip Hop Karaoke at a few venues, so you can satisfy your Biggie or Nas needs. And Rapstar the game soon too. You can karaoke “C.R.E.A.M”, and get left breathless, and then realize how insanely hard it is to [...]

So it was my first time at SXSW and my excuse for going was because I was on a panel with the Whuffaoke (the Winnebago with karaoke that drove across the country last summer) folks : Tara Hunt author of The Whuffie Factor, the irrepressible partiers Karen Hartline, Emma Perky, Tony B. of New Work [...]

If you haven’t seen Michael Cera in Youth In Revolt, your inner angsty teenager wants you to, if not for Cera’s awkward charm but for the French soundtrack. Nerd falls in love with a young Francophile and behaves very badly to be with her. Includes Cera dressing like a mini Serge Gainsbourg.
I was also delighted [...]

We hit Max Karaoke downtown after the Giant Robot Biennale closing party last Thursday, which was super. Almost as super as these two stellar performances by Derek Kirk Kim and Kozy Kitchens of [...]

Shania is the new loopy Paula. She likes his lips and “bottom end.”
Note all the remarks about how surprised they are that this hunky Asian boy can sing. Do they think we’re all FOB-sounding like Daniel Dae Kim on Lost?
*Addendum* Joan in Taipei let me know that the reason they were so surprised was because [...]

This Glee cast version of Don’t Stop Believing just makes me so unbelievably happy I can’t stop dancing in my workstation! Sorry for the horrible quality, it was either this one or the telesync version with floating lyrics.

When kids sing it’s kind annoying, cheesy, even creepy, like “It’s a small world”. But there are exceptions. Like that kid’s choir a few years back who sang David Bowie’s Space Odessey. That was still creepy but kind of cool.
I dunno who’s picking out songs for the kids at PS22 in Staten Island, but they’re [...]
